This healthy mango smoothie recipe is easy to make in 5 minutes with 6 ingredients (including coconut milk, yogurt and banana). It’s ultra creamy and you can use fresh or frozen mango and easily make it dairy-free. One sip will make you feel like you’re on a tropical island.
Mango Smoothie: Ingredients
The first step to making any recipe is to make sure you have all the ingredients on hand. So let’s chat about the ingredients in this mango banana smoothie, as well as possible substitutions.
- Lite Coconut milk. Something I love about this recipe is that it’s best when made with canned coconut milk. This means I always have some on hand in the pantry to make this frozen mango smoothie. I use a lite variety, but any canned coconut milk will work. You can also substitute an almond/coconut milk blend for a lighter version. You can use almond milk or another non-dairy milk, but coconut is by far my favorite for the tropical taste.
- Greek yogurt. For a little protein and creaminess, I add vanilla Greek yogurt to this mango smoothie. I use a vanilla honey flavor because I like the little bit of sweetness it adds. You can use plain Greek yogurt, you may just want to add some extra honey for sweetness. For a dairy-free variety, use a dairy-free yogurt.
- Frozen Banana. Adding frozen banana to smoothies is my favorite way to sweeten smoothies and give them a creamy texture. Using frozen banana means that you don’t need to add ice to make it thick and cold.
- Frozen Mango. I always keep frozen mango on hand in the freezer (to make this green smoothie recipe and of course, this mango banana smoothie). It’s convenient (like the canned coconut milk), and frozen fruit is always picked and frozen at the peak of ripeness, so it’s super sweet and full of nutrients. You can use fresh mango if you have it on hand. Or you can buy fresh mango, cut it up, and freeze it.
- Honey. This is optional but recommend for the best flavor. You can also use pure maple syrup to make this recipe vegan.
- Vanilla extract. The addition of pure vanilla extract takes this mango smoothie recipe to the next level. The rich vanilla flavor makes the flavor of the mango come to life.
How to make a Mango Smoothie
Let’s discuss how to make this recipe, and don’t forget to watch the video.
Use a Vitamix Blender
For ultra-creamy smoothies I recommend using a Vitamix blender. If you’ve been around my blog for a while then you know my love for my blender runs deep. Check out this Vitamix Buying Guide to learn why I chose Vitamix 10+ decade ago and never looked back!
Add ingredients to blending container
Begin by adding all the ingredients in the order listed to the container of a Vitamix blender (or another high-powered blender). It’s important to add the milk and yogurt first, then add the frozen fruit, for easy blending. I like to add the honey on top of the frozen fruit to ensure it doesn’t stick to the bottom of the blending container.
Blend
Next, secure the lid and blend the mango smoothie until it’s smooth and uniform throughout. As you can see in the video, I used tamper to press the ingredients to the blades, which I recommend doing if you’re using a Vitamix.
Mango banana smoothie add-ins
If you’d like to add some nutrition boosters to this mango smoothie, here are some suggestions.
- Spinach. As mentioned above, adding 1-2 cups of spinach won’t effect the taste or texture of this mango smoothie at all. It will change the color, but it’ll taste great AND have a bonus serving of veggies.
- Kale. If you’d like to add kale, I recommend adding 1 cup. Kale has a stronger flavor than spinach and could effect the taste.
- Protein powder. Adding a scoop of vanilla protein powder will both enhance the flavor AND give you a healthy dose of protein. I love adding protein powder to my smoothies and do it all the time. This Vanilla Protein Powder is my favorite (and it’s plant-based).
- Chia seeds. Chia seeds are a nutritional powerhouse that can be added to this mango smoothie. I recommend adding 1-2 TBS and drinking the smoothie immediately.
Serve
Pour into two to four glasses and enjoy!
Store/freeze
You can store this mango smoothie in a glass jar with a lid in the refrigerator overnight or in the freezer for up to 2 months. Thaw slowly in the refrigerator.
FAQs about Mango Smoothies
If you’d like to add some more fruit to this mango smoothie (besides bananas of course), here are some suggestions:
Strawberries
Raspberries
Pineapple
Apples
Grapefruit
Oranges (or any other citrus fruit)
The key to a creamy smoothie is using frozen fruits and vegetables. You will never see me add ice to my smoothies. I always choose to add creaminess by using frozen ingredients and/or adding yogurt.
Yes! If you want to make this a spinach mango smoothie simply add 1-2 cups of fresh or fresh-then-frozen spinach on top of the frozen fruit before blending. Check out my Green Smoothie post for tips about freezing spinach.

Mango Smoothie: Ingredient substitutions
- Lite Coconut milk. You can substitute an almond/coconut milk blend for a lighter version (and still keep the tropical coconut flavor). Almond milk, oat milk, etc. may be used as well.

Thx❤️
this is so good! i decided to add lemon juice because i like sour and tart smoothies, it was honestly the best smoothie ive ever made. i never know what to add with mango because just mango is never good to me
Love the addition of lemon juice!
This is very yummy! I used monk fruit sweetener instead of the honey and added Chia seeds.
My only complaint is I followed the recipe for 1x the ingredients. I didn’t realize until I blended it up that it was 4 servings worth! I only needed 1 for myself. I will definetly enjoy the rest later but it made it difficult to figure the calorie count per glass. Maybe an side recipe for 1 serving would be helpful😄
What is the best way to save if I make too much? Is this something that is good for make ahead? Expecting a kiddo so I’m trying to get on top of my meal prep situation. Thanks for the help!
