I know smoothies seem like a summer food, but in reality they reach the height of their popularity between January and March (New Year’s resolutions)! Fresh fruit can get pricey during the winter months, but frozen fruit is affordable all year long, and perfect to use in smoothies.
How to make the best green smoothies
Here are a few tips on making the best green smoothies.
Use frozen ingredients as much as possible
Using frozen ingredients ensures a thicker, creamier smoothie that’s not diluted by adding ice. The only fruit I used that wasn’t frozen was the orange and grapefruit!
Use a Vitamix
This should go without saying, but to make the best smoothies you need to use a high-quality blender.
Serve Immediately, or freeze
Green smoothies taste best when enjoyed immediately! If you ever have any leftovers, I recommend freezing them in ice cube trays and using them in your next smoothie.
Blueberry Citrus Smoothie: Ingredients & Substitutions
- Protein powder:Â Choose your favorite vanilla, plant-based protein powder. I highly recommend Orgain. If you’d prefer not to use protein powder you can add chia seeds, hemp seeds, or ground flaxseed for a little added protein and fiber!
- Almond Milk:Â Use any milk of your choice, dairy-free or regular dairy milk both work well.
- Fruit: use your favorite berries or citrus fruit to make this green smoothie recipe your own.
Recipe FAQs
I suggest frozen because it makes the smoothie thick and creamy without adding ice. You could use fresh if you don’t mind a thinner smoothie.
Yes, you can double the ingredients just be sure to use a large blending container.
