This Paleo & Vegan Chocolate Fondue is a delicious recipe to make for a celebratory dessert.
This recipe is healthier than your average fondue. It’s dairy-free and can easily be made paleo without refined sugar.
It’s easy to make in 5 minutes in the blender (with instructions for how to make it on the stovetop) with only 6 ingredients.
How to make Vegan Chocolate Fondue
This Vegan Chocolate Fondue is easy to make here are some notes on how.
Use a Vitamix
To make this recipe, put most of the ingredients in the Vitamix and blend for 1 minute. This will heat up the wet ingredients just in time to add the chocolate and blend for 4 more minutes.
As the mixture continues to heat up, the chocolate will melt and the mixture will become velvety smooth. Once the fondue has reached a creamy consistency, add a splash of vanilla, pulse and serve.
Making it on the stovetop.
You can also make it on a saucepan on thee stovetp by following these instructions:
- Combine the ingredients (except for chopped chocolate and vanilla) on the stovetop over medium heat and whisk until combined.
- Heat until it just begins to boil (bubbles on the sides of the pan), and then add the chocolate and whisk until smooth.
- Stir in vanilla and serve
What to dip in chocolate fondue
There are virtually endless possibilities of what you can dip in this Vegan & paleo Chocolate Fondue! Here are some suggestions

- Rice crispy treats

- Angel food cake
- Graham crackers
- Potato chips (!)
Vegan Chocolate Fondue: Substitutions
As always I recommend making the recipe exactly as written for the best results, however here are a few thoughts on potential substitutions.
- Coconut Cream: I do not recommend substituting anything for the coconut cream (especially not low-fat coconut milk). You need fat for creaminess. The only other potential substitution could be a dairy-free half-and-half or heavy whipping cream. You could substitute regular heavy whipping cream.
- Granulated Sugar: You can use any granulated sugar (I have tried raw organic sugar and coconut sugar with great results), maple syrup, or honey (not vegan). The best results are achieved using granulated sugar!
- Chocolate Chips: Use any chopped chocolate or chip variety of your liking. My absolute favorites are Ghirardelli 60% dark chocolate chips
Healthy chocolate options:
- Hu Kitchen Chocolate Gems. This is my favorite paleo chocolate.
- Hu Kitchen Dark Chocolate Bars. You can also buy dark chocolate bars and chop them up.
- Lily’s Dark Chocolate. They make chips and bars that are stevia sweetened, low carb, keto, etc.
- Enjoy Life Foods Dark Chocolate Chips are a good option that are vegan & dairy-free.

This chocolate fondue was so delicious, I added some coconut oil in the beginning to make it a little more decadent and have a silky finish, and I just slowly simmered it in a pot on the stove instead of using a vitamix. I made this for a party and even people who eat dairy loved it, it was a huge hit and almost all gone!! Thank you, it was so easy and impressive!
Hi there,
Could I use some vegan chocolate instead of the chocolate chips?
Absolutely.
How can I make it thicker
Do you use the entire can of coconut milk, or just the solid coconut cream?
Hi Laura,
Do you know if this would work in a chocolate fountain?
Hey Irela! I don’t anticipate that it would work well in a chocolate fountain. In my experience chocolate fountains require a very high oil : chocolate ratio!
I’m wondering if these comments are still being monitored so long after the fact, but am wondering whether it would work to make this in advance? Am considering making for a work event and would rather make using my Vitamix at home. Wondering if anyone has tried that and how re-heating has worked out?
Hey Kristin! I’m always watching comments on all of my recipes! 😉 Yes I absolutely have made it and reheated the leftovers with excellent results. I’d recommend gently warming it over low heat on the stove if you can, otherwise gently reheating in the microwave works well too!
Will a regular blender do as well?
If you use a regular blender I suggest melting the chocolate first. The beauty of this recipe is just tossing it all into the Vitamix because it is powerful enough to melt the chocolate. You can always use the stovetop to make this recipe instead of a blender!
