This lime avocado dressing is easy to make with a handful of simple & nutritious ingredients in only 5 minutes.
It’s lusciously creamy, bursting with flavor and tastes great on everything – especially taco salad!
Cilantro Avocado Dressing: Ingredients & Substitutions
- Avocado. Use a large, ripe avocado to make this recipe. A ripe avocado is soft to the touch & not hard.
- Olive Oil. avocado oil is a great substitute for olive oil in this recipe.
- Sour Cream. full-fat Greek yogurt is a good substitute for sour cream.
- Lime Juice. Fresh or bottled lime juice both can be used in this recipe.
- Honey. I don’t recommend substitutions for the honey, although you can use granulated sugar, or just omit it all together.
- Minced Garlic. Use fresh minced garlic or jarred.
- Fresh Cilantro. Please do not substitute the cilantro. If you want an Italian-style avocado sauce try this avocado pasta sauce with basil.
How to Make Avocado Dressing
This avocado dressing recipe only takes 2 steps! But we’ll still walk through it together, and don’t forget to watch the video as well.
Begin by combining the ingredients in the container of a high-powered blender or food processor fitted with the “S” blade.
Then, blend or pulse the blender/food processor until the mixture is smooth. You may need to pause, scrape down the sides and continue if you have an appliance with a large container.
Store/Freeze
Transfer the lime avocado dressing to a glass container with a lid and store it in the refrigerator until you are ready to use it or up to 5 days. You can also freeze it for up to 1 month.
To prevent browning: Store it in a glass jar and tap it on the counter to get rid of any air bubbles. Then, either sprinkle lime juice over the top/surface of the dressing, or carefully press plastic wrap into the surface so that no air can get to it. Then, secure the lid tightly.
Serve
Serve on top of your favorite salads – especially taco salad and BBQ chicken salad!
It’s also a great sauce to serve alongside your favorite Mexican recipes to really “wow” your friends and family! We serve it with these recipes:
- Ground beef tacos – I make these weekly!
- Crockpot Chicken Tacos – so easy and healthy!
- Sweet potato tacos – a delicious vegetarian option.
- Chicken enchiladas.
- Chicken Fajitas.
I often just slater leftovers on top of my scrambled eggs in the morning too! It also tastes great on southwest style pasta dishes!
